There is a small piece of Japan in Kyiv. Kyoto Park streches between 'Chernihivska' and 'Lisova' metro stations. It was created immediately after the signing the Cooperation and Development agreement between the capital of Ukraine Kyiv and cultural capital of Japan, Kyoto, in 1972, as a sign of friendly relations.
In honor of the opening the city of Kyoto presented the park a granite pagoda, a square multi-storey five-meter column, as a gift.
